On Monday 15 September the Melbourne Law School (MLS) staff seminar was focused on the “Climate Conscious Lawyers” project. Associate Professor Julia Dehm spoke on the panel together with incredible contributors to the book, ๐๐ฆ๐ค๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐ข ๐๐ญ๐ช๐ฎ๐ข๐ต๐ฆ ๐๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ด๐ค๐ช๐ฐ๐ถ๐ด ๐๐ข๐ธ๐บ๐ฆ๐ณ, Kate Fischer Doherty, Christine Parker, Julian Webb, Lucie O’Brien and Joo-Cheong Tham, as well as Katrina Webster from Victorian Legal Services Board and Commissioner, chaired by Brad Jessup.
Panel description: Becoming a Climate Conscious Lawyer (La Trobe e-Bureau) is a new and expanding online edited collection led by Associate Professor Julia Dehm and partly funded by the VLSC+B. A student-friendly text, the book explores the possibilities of climate change consciousness emerging across the law curriculum in chapters written by sub-disciplinary experts including from Melbourne Law School. In this seminar, you will hear about the experience in developing the project and the insights from writers of chapters on areas as broad as clinical legal education, public law, business regulation, and lawyers’ ethics. This seminar will foreshadow the upcoming seminar led by Joo-Cheong Tham on ‘A Climate Conscious Labour Lawโ (20 October 2025). We will also launch the Law Schoolโs Sustainability in Teaching and Research Survey, which will be our starting point for reporting the Law Schoolโs contribution to the universityโs sustainability metrics in our teaching and research.
