On Wednesday 4 June 2025, Dr Julia Dehm spoke at the Disaster Legal Help Community of Practice (CoP) about climate conscious lawyering. Her presentation highlighted how we are increasingly faced with cascading, intersecting and cumulative impacts and events and the need for an intersectional and “climate conscious” lens when supporting disaster preparedness and recovery.
The other speaker at the CoP was Lorraine Finlay, Human Rights Commissioner at the Australian Human Rights Commission. She spoke about the report, “Collateral Damage: What the Untold Stories from the COVID-19 Pandemic Reveal about Human Rights in Australia” released by the Australian Human Rights Commission in March 2025. March 2025, as well as the ongoing work by the Commission on disasters and emergencies.
