On Thursday 11 June 2026, Dr Julia Dehm gave a presentation on climate conscious lawyering for the Community Legal Centre (CLC) training day, ‘All Law is Climate Law: CLCs Taking Action for Climate Justice’. The event was attended by around 30 Community Legal Centre (CLC) speakers and participants and was organised by the Federation of Community Legal Centres.
The training covered a number of issues including:
🌱 How to become a climate justice-conscious lawyer. Given the cross-cutting and increasing impacts of climate change across almost every area of law, including family violence, employment, housing, insurance and social security, amongst others.
🏘️ What climate & disaster justice looks like in practice, for CLCs working with communities doing it tough around Victoria.
🔥☔️🌊 What your key priorities are likely to be following an extreme weather event – in the first 72 hours through to 1 year and beyond – whether you’re a CLC client, lawyer, CEO/Board member, client intake officer, or community engagement worker.
📣 How to advocate effectively for law reform and other types of positive systemic change.
💪 Inspiring stories of strategic climate litigation by grassroots groups and individuals, supported by Environmental Justice Australia. Taking on the big fossil fuel polluters who damage priceless natural environments, impacting our communities’ health, cultures, and livelihoods.
🤝 Tips on how to build strong, mutually-beneficial relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders across multiple sectors at the local level.
🤗 Opportunities for CLCs to collaborate and mentor/be mentored by each other, to share knowledge and build our capacity to help communities across the state.
